Religion is alive in the lives of many. This course is for everyone, religious or not. To better understand ourselves and others, we examine what is significant in the world’s major religious traditions by way of text and film. We learn about their central ideas and practices and get some sense of what it is like to live in accordance with various religious identities. In addition to institutionalized religion, we look beyond it to cultural customs and religious approaches to contemporary problems. We think critically about what we learn and about our own assumptions about different religions and their followers.
